The Witch Trials Chapter 8
There being pulled in by two men was Hayley Farro. Her eyes looks tired and dimmed as she was pushed into the center of the room. Josh moved foreword in attempt to help her but Hale pushed him back, giving him a weak smile. Josh took at deep breath and watched as Hayley stood up and dusted herself off. She turned slightly and caught Josh’s eyes with her own. Hayley smiled weakly and sent a small wave at Josh. He waved back, biting his lip to keep his tears from streaming down his cheeks. She looked so weak and small as she stood there waiting to know her fate. “Goody Farro.” “Aye sir.” Hayley spoke, her voice cracking from the lass of use. “Is it true that you are a witch? A follower of Satan?” Danforth questioned, a smirk playing on his lips. “No sir.” “Are you sure?” “Aye sir.” “Well there is proof here saying that you are a witch.” “Those are lies.” Hayley fought back. “Jenna Rice said that your spirit stabbed her with a needle.” “How would I do that?” Hayley asked turning to look at Josh with confusion written on her face. “Goody Farro don’t turn back to look at your husband.” “Fine.” Hayley mumbled as she placed with a stray piece of hair that fell out of her bun. “Goody Farro have you ever owned a poppet?” “A poppet?” Hayley asked with a raised eyebrow. “Yes m’am.” “No sir. I’ve never owned any poppets.” “Then how come we found a poppet in your house with a needle in it’s stomach?” “I don’t know and why would a poppet have a needle in its stomach?” Hayley asked as she glimpsed at Jenna then back to Danforth. “You shoved the needle in your doll pretending it was Jenna thus making Jenna bleed one day after she was stabbed by your spirit.” “That’s absurd.” Hayley protested. “Well there is proof that you committed this crime Goody Farro.” “The only proof you have is a poppet that’s not even mine.” Hayley snapped. “Well Mr. Gilbert found it in your house the day we arrested you.” “Of course he did.” Hayley mumbled, rubbing her forehead. “Mr. Gilbert also believes that you are a witch as well.” “He does? Why would that be? Because I wouldn’t sleep with him?” Hayley screamed. “Mrs. Farro.” Hale warned. “He’s a bastard that came from England.” Hayley cried, sobs shaking her body. “That’s enough. Goody Farro, you are founf guilty by the court and will be hung tomorrow.” “You can’t do that!” Josh screamed standing up and pounding his fist on the table. “Mr. Farro.” “I won’t let you do that to her. I love her.” Josh fought as he broke through Hale’s grasp and ran over to Hayley. “Josh…” Hayley whispered, tears streaming down her cheeks. “I love you.” “I won’t let them kill you Hayles.” Josh cried. “It’s too late. I should’ve kept my mouth closed. I’m too loud for this town.” Hayley hiccupped. “This town sucks.” “You need to move on Josh, tomorrow I will be no more.” “I love you too Josh but…” “Not buts we will be together.” Josh wiped away her falling tears and placed a passionate kiss on her lips. Hayley knotted her fingers in his hair as their kiss deepened. “I love you.” Josh whispered as he pulled away. “I love you too.” Hayley whispered as she opened her eyes slowly. “Mr. Farro.” Josh turned his head around and stared at Danforth as a smirk rose on his lips. “It seems as if you broke one of the most important rules here in Salem.” “And what is that?” Josh snapped. “Public affection.” “So?” Josh asked confused as he looked back at Hayley who was tense in his arms. “I’m sorry to say this Mr. Farro but tomorrow at sunrise you and your wife will be hung.”
“Stop!” Josh cried shaking his head. “I will never move on Hayley. I love you.”
“But how can we when I’m sentenced to die.” Hayley whispered.
