The Witch Trials Chapter 7

“What!” Mikey screamed spitting out his pancake that he was chewing on.
“Ewww.” Abby whined as she picked the chewed piece of food off her shirt.
“Sorry.” Mikey blushed as Harriet glared at him. “What happens next grandma?”
“Mikey I’ve been telling this story the whole time you kids were here. Don’t you want to do something else?”
“No.” Mikey and Abby screamed at the same time.
“Okay, okay.” Harriet chuckled as she placed the dirty dishes in the sink.
“Where were we…”
Josh walked into the town hall on that cold Tuesday morning as he hands trembled. His nerves and anger kicked in as he watched the accusers walked into the room and stand on the opposite side. His knuckles turned white as Jenna Rice and Chad Gilbert stood there smirking at him. Jenna was twisting a piece of gold hair around her finger smiling widely at Josh while Chad had a permanent smirk on his face. Josh’s eyes narrowed on Chad as the doors opened once more sending a cold gush of air into the court room. Josh turned his head around and frowned when Judge Danforth entered the room. Danforth wasn’t Josh’s biggest fan and the same way with Josh. Hale joined Danforth at the table and they sat down, motioning for the others to do so as well. Josh took a deep breath out as he stayed standing having all eyes staring at him. “Joshua Farro.” Danforth said in a deep voice, staring down a nervous Josh. “Aye sir.” Josh coughed, clearing his voice. “My wife, Goody Farro sir.” Josh said closing his eyes. “She is believed to be a witch.” “She is, is she not?” Danforth questioned grabbing some papers off the small table. “She is not sir, they lie.” Josh fought. “How do you know that Mr. Farro?” “Because she is my wife sir. I just know.” “Shall we question the accusers?” Hale whispered to Danforth who nodded eagerly. “The court would like to ask Jenna Rice to the stand.” Jenna Rice rose and walked towards the center of the room and sat in the chair that was facing Josh. A big smirk rose on her face as Josh filled her vision. She flipped back her hair back and sent Josh a flirty smile, after all he was going to be hers soon enough. “Jenna Rice, is Hayley Farro a witch?” Hale questioned as he paced the room. “Aye sir.” Jenna nodded keeping her eyes on Josh. “How do you know this Jenna?” “Her spirit came out and attacked me.” “You’ve got to be kidding me.” Josh mumbled, shaking his head. “Her spirit?” “Aye sir, her spirit.” “Please explain.” Hale encouraged. “Yes please, I would love to hear more.” Josh sighed throwing his hands up. “Well I was talking to Abigail one day when I felt this sharp pain in my stomach. I looked down and noticed that there was blood seeping through my dress. I ripped the dress and pulled a needle out my stomach. Later that day I went to visit Goody Farro and she was holding a doll in her hands. You see the doll had a needle in her stomach just like mine had. She placed a curse on that doll and made it me. Goody Farro stabbed me with a needle through her doll sir. Witch craft is the only explanation.” “She lies! My wife has never owned a poppet in her life!” Josh screamed as he stood up and glared at Jenna. “It hurts me Josh that you think that I’m a liar.” Jenna frowned. “But I forgive you anyway.” “That never happened.” Josh argued, ignoring Jenna. “Sir, we found this doll in your house.” Hale whispered as he placed a doll in front of Josh. “That’s not ours.” Josh said. “That’s not ours.” “Then how did it end up in your house?” “How am I supposed to know? Maybe someone planted it.” Josh snapped glaring at Chad as a smirk rose on his face. “Mr. Farro…” “That’s not ours Reverend. You have to believe me.” Josh frowned. “I don’t know if I can.” Hale whispered. “Sir…” “Next accuser.” Danforth interrupted. Chad Gilbert took Jenna’s spot on the center chair and smiled smugly at Josh as he straightened his tie. “Mr. Gilbert, is Goody Farro a witch?” “Aye sir.” “What is your proof?” “You know Goody Farro is very young and very attractive.” Chad started, smirking at Josh as he temper rose. “How dare you say that about my wife.” Josh screamed. “Mr. Farro…” “Sir…” Josh begged. “Sit.” Danforth warned. Josh sat down in his chair and clenched his fists, making his knuckles turn white. “It was late one night when I saw Hayley Farro in my dreams. I have never experienced something like this before sir. I believe her spirit was sent out to enter my dreams.” Chad finished. “This is bull shit.” Josh screamed. “I won’t ask you again Mr. Farro.” Danforth warned. “Fine.” Josh mumbled as he sat down again. “Hayley Farro is a witch, Mr. Gilbert?” “Aye Sir.” “Bring in the accused.” Josh turned his head around and his heart stopped at the sight in front of him.
“What brings you to town hall on this Tuesday morning?”
