You'll Always Be My Best Friend One-Shot

"How much longer will this take?" I groaned, standing on my toes to try and see above the man infront of me.
"I don't know Hayley." Hannah sighed, rolling her eyes at my impatience.
"Unbelievable." I muttered, slapping my forehead before leaning on Hannah's shoulder. "This is agony."
"We've been here for...three minutes." Hannah said after glancing down at her watch.
"Argh!" I huffed loudly, resulting in various people in the line to turn and stare at me.
"Look away people!" I screamed, waving my hands in the air and no doubt looking like an insane person.
"Take a chill pill." Hannah hissed quietly to me before smiling at the man infront of us who was giving me this weird glare.
"This line is ridiculous for a fricken cup of coffee." I whispered, my eyes glued to the line of twenty or so people infront of us.
"Well it is the only coffee stand on campus that is anywhere near our dorm." Hannah explained, brushing back her bangs to glance at me. "And I highly doubt that you have the patience to wait at the dinner for a cup so I had to settle for this."
"Why do all these people need coffee anyway?" I asked loudly before Hannah clapped her hand over my mouth.
"Shut up." Hannah whispered harshly, letting out a nervous chuckle when she removed her hand.
"But seriously, this cart is never this busy." I sighed, playing with a piece of my aurburn hair, it needed to be re-dyed soon.
"Because oh wise one it is finals week and finals week means endless hours of studying." Hannah explained, letting out a low chuckle when the couple behind us left the line.
"They are smart people." I nodded, watching the couple walk away.
"They have enough patience to probably go to the dinner." Hannah shot back, taking a step up as the line moved forward.
"Why couldn't we get coffee at the dorm again?" I asked, smirking slying at Hannah.
"Because the coffee sucks." Hannah shrugged innocently.
"So it's not because you had a one night stand with that boy from 243 and you saw him there when we left earlier?"
"No...'" Hannah sang, a small blush crossing her cheeks.
"Liar." I accused, pointing my finger at her as well as turning a few heads.
"Do you have an inside voice?" Hannah hissed.
"I do but we're not inside thanks to you." I smirked, happy with my answer.
"Okay you know what...I'm like done." Hannah sighed, throwing her arms in the air as a sign of defeat. "Why can't you stand in this fucking line for ten fucking minutes without making a fucking noise?"
"Don't curse in a public place." I whispered, glancing at the staring crowd. "You're causing a scene."
"I'm causing a scene?" Hannah laughed sarcasticly.
"Inside voices." I reminded.
"Right." Hannah mumbled before taking a deep breath and turning to face me once more. "Why can't you stand in this line again?"
"Well Miss Nosey, I have a video chat in t-minus ten minutes." I informed with a slight smirk.
"Ah the long distance boyfriend." Hannah smirked. "Isn't he the one that you met at that concert a few months ago?"
"Yes, The long distance boyfriend who not only adores me but also is willing to visit me next weekend." I sang.
"Should I stay with Bekah that weekend?" Hannah laughed.
"Very funny." I snorted.
"So back to the video chat...that's why you are getting restless on line?" Hannah asked.
"Well duh." I sighed, placing my hands in my jean pockets and moving up a step.
"Then why are you with me again?" Hannah asked quickly.
I opened my mouth to reply but closed it when I realized I had no reason to be standing there in the first place.
"So I'll see you back at the dorm?" Hannah laughed at my bemused expression.
"I hate you." I called over my shoulder before sprinting towards my dorm and past the long line of coffee drinkers.
My vans skidded against the tile floor as I continued my run, past the cafeteria, past the bathroms, and past all the rooms whose numbers were too blured to read. Kicking my door open, I ran to my laptop and turned it on, waiting for the screen to load before I could log onto my video chat. Taking a deep breath, I attempted to fix my hair as the screen finally appeared in front of me. A full grown smile appeared on my face as the window popped up and that I was now face to face with Josh Farro.
"Hey babe." Josh smiled, his lip ring shining by the light in his room.
"Hey Josh." I laughed, pushing my hair behind me ear.
"You look like you just went running." Josh chuckled, noticing my read cheeks.
"I ditched Hannah at the coffee stand." I admitted with a shy laugh.
"Well I'm glad you could make it." Josh smirked.
"I wouldn't miss it." I smiled softly. "I noticed you cut your hair from the last time I saw you."
"My mom kept telling me that I looked like a girl so I finally gave in and chopped it off." Josh shrugged, running his fingers through his much shorter brown hair. "I still look hot right?"
"Of course." I nodded.
"I see you kept the same red you had when we first met." Josh grinned.
"I might change it though seeing as you changed your hair." I teased, placing with the ends of my fading hair.
"It's only fair." Josh chuckled. "But I'm sure you'll look amazing in any color."
"Well thank babe." I sang, blowing Josh a kiss and laughing when he 'caught' it and placed it on his heart.
"So I have some news." Josh said slowly, a nervous chuckle escaping his lips.
"Good or bad?" I asked.
"Depends on how you take it." Josh shrugged lightly.
"Well let's hear it." I laughed. crossing my legs so that I was more comfortable.
"I wrote you a song." Josh said, testing out each word to make sure that I wouldn't freak out.
"That doesn't sound so bad Josh." I teased, a sly smirk dancing on my lips.
"Maybe you're right." Josh laughed before grabbing his guitar and pulling it onto his lap. "You ready?"
"As ready as I'll ever be." I said, smiling once Josh started to strum a tune on gus guitar. Josh sent me another small smile before turning his attention back to his guitar before begining to sing.
i wish i knew you
way back when
before you were part of my plans
i think that we would have been friends
there's only time to live our lives
and you'll be the one who's by my sIde
and i can promise you then
you'll always be my best friend
till the end when we part
i will give you my heart
and i'll promise to love you with all that it Is
and i'll promise to be there whenever you need me
because you'll always be my best friend
you'll always be my best friend
"Josh." I sang when he finished the song and looked up at me with a small grin.
"You like it?"
"I love it."I nodded, playing with my bracelet that Josh had given me the night we met.
"Your welcome then." Josh chuckled, placing the guitar down behind him so that it was no longer in the frame.
I just shook my head and laughed, he really was too perfect and for some reason unknown to me, he would rather have a long distance relationship with me than date one of the thousand of girls that attend his college.
"Hey Hayles?"
"Hmmm?" I hummed, snapping out of my thoughts.
"You know that you are basically like the best best friend I ever had even though we are dating." Josh said slowly, a serious expression written on his face.
"You're my best friend too Joshie." I smiled, sitting up and tilting my head to the side.
"And I was going to tell you this, this weekend but I don't think it could wait." Josh continued.
"Now you're scaring me." I laughed, voice getting quieter with each word.
"Hayley I love you."
I stared at Josh, hoping that this wasn't some sick joke that would mess with my mind but when I looked into his eyes and saw the warmth that hid behind them, I knew he was serious.
"I love you too." I said, smiling at the fact at how true that was rolling off my tongue. "Oh my god I love you."
"Good to know." Josh laughed.
"I love you." I repeated with a small giggle.
"And I love you." Josh smiled, pressing his lips to the screen and releasing with a loud 'mwah'.
"You're a dork." I laughed.
"But I'm your dork." Josh reasoned.
"That you are." I smirked, shaking my head lightly.
"Apparently I have to go out to dinner with the family because Zac just called my phone five times and left twelve text messages." Josh groaned, rubbing his forehead before sending me a weak smile.
"Go and tell the family I said hi." I shrugged, slightly dispointed with the fact that I couldn't see him for much longer.
"Friday afternoon I'll be there and we'll go out on a proper date." Josh smiled softly. "And maybe I'll play this song for you in person."
"I'll like that." I smiled, chewing on my bottom lip.
"I love you so much Hayley and I'll see you in three days."
"I love you too Josh." I said softly when Josh blew me a kiss before closing the window.
I closed my laptop with a small sigh before lying back on my bed and staring at the ceiling. Long distance relationships were harder than I thought it would be. But I know. deep down in my gut, that Josh is the one and that this one minor hurdle in our relationship is nothing and will only make us stronger. He's my best friend and I love him, seventy-two hours is nothing compared to that.
So I started school today and sadly that means that updates might be coming in a little slow over the next couple of days. My plan is to update every weekend and at least once during the school week. Junior year is a tough year for me (SAT, Honors Classes) but I'm going to find enough time to update so stay with me :)
